Cosmetic contouring consists of treatments to improves the appearance and sometimes the function of a patient's teeth, or the way their jaws bite together
Cosmetic contouring consists of treatments to improves the appearance and sometimes the function of a patient's teeth, or the way their jaws bite together. This includes dental aesthetics in color, position, shape, size, alignment, and overall smile appearance.
Cosmetic dentistry has developed to enhance many new treatment procedures, and new dental materials are constantly being introduced.
These could involve:
- Teeth whitening (bleaching) or laser whitening. Here the gums are covered with a rubber protection and a bleaching chemical is applied on the teeth. A special laser light, is then shone upon the teeth. This laser activates the bleaching chemical and lightens the teeth color.
- The addition of a tooth colored material to the teeth by bonding tooth colored composites. This material is then shaped, hardened and polished(involves one visit and no dental technician).
- Tooth colored porcelain veneers (laminates) or tooth colored crowns/caps They provide a solution for closing gaps, changing the shape, or changing the color of teeth that do not respond well to whitening procedures (involves several visits and a dental technician).
